Whaling around Greenland not successful according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche staatscourant dated 6 August 1825
An item dated Altona, Germany 22nd July referred to tidings received from Greenland which were not favourable. The new ship Stad Altona returned on the 21st homeward bound on the 9th after she was heavily damaged in efforts to break through the ice with catch of 800 young seals. There were no more as 16 whales by the end of June by the 26 British and all other nationalities. Just one single ship had a catch of 1.000 young seals. The explanation given was that due to the constant north-west winds set large ice floes in motion.
