First Soviet Antarctic whaling fleet underway according to the Australian newspaper The West Australian dated Friday 3 January 1947

An item dated London, England 2nd referred to a Moscow Radio news item reporting that the first Soviet whaling fleet bound for the Antarctic was departed. It consisted of the 29.000 tons floating factory ship Slava able to produced tinned whale meat and tank capacity for 15.000 tons whale oil and 8 fast 350 tons whale chasers.
