The Dutch Greenland whaler Crab in 1656
A deed dated 3 April 1656 (notary Claes Pietersz Keetman 502) mentioned that merchant sr. Cornelis Boes as commandeur of the by him founded Greenland company hired from master Jacob Jansz Schram of Hoorn the ship de Crab with as dimensions 116 x 23.5 x 11 (hold) x 4.5 (above) Hoorn feet for ƒ 2.445 to be used as a Greenland whaler. Intended commandeur on board of the whaler was to be Dirck Cornelisz Fraij of Oosthuijsen.
