British 3-mast frigate Annesley in 1899
According to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 16 April arrived the iron built 3-mast frigate ship Annesley captain Smith on 28 March at Rotterdam coming from Antofagasta, Chile. She was loaded with saltpetre for the firm Ph. Van Ommeren. The last 8 days she was lying empty in the entrepôtdok warehouse 13 Binnenhaven O.Z. waiting for her new cargo of concrete. Her captain being afraid of the heavy storm s during the night and morning a day earlier secured her with mooring lines tot he quay at port side and hung up at starboard heavy beams. At 09.30 o’clock 14th April he tried fruitless a telephonic call for ballast. The ship capsized to port side making a degree of nearly 180 degrees heavily damaging the warehouse and the fench alongside the entrepôtdok. Her crew managed to leave the ship at time. Another Dutch newspaper De Maasbode dated 19th April reported that the damage was estimated to be around 1.700 Dutch guilders. The Bergingsmaatschappij managed to lift the ship on 17 April. In the morning of 21 April was she docked.
