British destroyer HMS Crossbow (D96) 1944-1971 (1972)

Of the Weapon-class, preceded by the C-class and succeeded by the Battle-class. Laid down by John I. Thornycroft&Company on 26 August 1944, launched on 20 December 1945, completed on 4 March 1948, modernized at Chatham Dockyard 1957-1959, harbor training ship added to shore establishment Sultan 1963, sold to Thos. W. Eardon 14 December 1971 and broken up at their shipyard at Briton Ferry where she arrived on 21 January 1972. Displacement 1.980 tons (standard) and as dimensions 104,1 (between perpendiculars)-111 (over all)x 12 x 4,4 metres or 341,5-365 x 38 x 14.5feet. The armament consisted of 2x2-10,2cm/4” dual purpose guns, 6-4cm Bofors anti aircraft guns, 2 Squid A/S mortars and 10-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes which were removed in the 1957-1959 modernization. Machinery consisted of Parsons double reduction geared steam turbines and 2 Foster-Wheeler water tube boilers supplying 40.000 shp allowing a speed of 31 knots.With a oil bunker capacity of 630 ton and a speed of 20 knots was the range 5.000 nautical miles. Crew numbered 234 men.
