British frigate HMS Keppel (F85) 1953-1979

Part of the Blackwood-class (Type 4) 2nd rate anti submarine frigates. Laid down by Yarrow, Scotstoun, Scotland on 27 March 1953, launched on 31 August 1954, commissioned on 6 July 1956, reserve since February 1973, reactivated in July 1975, for disposal in 1977 and broken up at Sittingbourne in 1979. Class specifications. Displacement 1.200 (standard)-1.479 tons (full load) and as dimensions 94,5 x 10,1 x 4,6 metres or 310 x 33 x 15 feet. Machinery consisted of 1 English Electric geared steam turbine and 2 Babcock&Wilcox boilers supplying via one shaft 15.000 shp allowing a speed of 27 knots and with a speed of 12 knots a range of 5.200 nautical miles. Crew numbered 140 men. Original armament consisted of 3x1- 4cm Bofors guns and 2 Limbo Mark 10 anti submarine mortars.
