British frigate HMS Rothesay (F107) 1956-1988

Of the Rothesay-class (Type 12M) anti submarine frigates, preceded by Type 12 Whitby-class and succeeded by Type 121 Leander-class. Rothesay-class frigates served in the navies of South Africa, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Launched by Yarrow, Scotstoun, Scotland on 6 November 1956, launched on 9 December 1957, commissioned on 23 April 1960, modernized 1966-1968, decommissioned in March 1988 and broken up at Santander, Spain in 1988. Displacement originally 2.150 (standard)-2.560 (full load) tons and after modernization 2.380 (standard)-2.800 (full load) tons and as dimensions 110 x 12 x 5,3 metres or 370 x 41 x 17.3 feet. Machinery consisted of 2 English Electric steam turbines and 2 Babcock&Wilcox boilers supplying via 2 shafts 30.000 shp allowing a speed of 30 knots. With a fuel oil bunker capacity of 400 tons and a speed of 12 knots was the range 5.200 nautical miles. Crew 152-235 (modified) persons. Original armament 1x2-4.5” Mark 6 guns, 1x2-4cm Bofors guns, 2 Limbos A/S Mark 10 mortars, 2x2-21” trainable A/S torpedo tubes and 8-21”fixed A/S torpedo tubes. Armament after the 1966-1968 modernization 1x2-4.5” Mark 6 guns, 1 Sea Cat GWS-20 SAM, 2-2cm Oerlikon guns, 1 Limbo A/S Mark 10 mortar, 1 Westland Wasp HAS.1 helicopter and 2-7,6cm/3”-8 barrel Knebworth/Corvus chaff countermeasures launchers.
