French cruiser Guichen (D 607) (1939) 1947-1979

Built as Italian Scipione Africano of the Capitana Romani-class light cruisers. Building ordered in 1937, laid down on 28 September 1939, launched on 12 January 1941, commissioned in 1942, surrendered on 10 September 1943 at Malta, as war reparation after the Peace Treaty of 10 February 1947 handed over to France, renamed Guichen, rebuilt by La Seyne Dockyard between 1951-1954, stricken in 1961 and broken up in 1979. Displacement 3.810 (standard)-5.510 (full load) tons and as dimensions 142,2 (over all) x 14,4 x 4,1 metres or 466.6 x 47.3 x 13.5 feet. Machinery consisted of 2 shaft geared turbines and 4 boilers supplying 110.000 shp allowing a speed pf 41 knots and with a speed of 18 knots a range of 4.350 nautical miles. Crew numbered 418 men. Original armament 4x2-13,5cm/5.3”guns, 4x2-3,7cm/1.5” guns, 8x1-2cm/0.79” guns, 2x4-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes and 70 mines. In French service 3x2-10,5/4.1” guns, 5x2-5,7/2.2” cm guns and 12-55cm/21.65” torpedo tubes.
