Turkish battleship Mahmoudie or Mahmudiye 1863-1913

Of the Osmaniye-class. Displacement 6.400 tons and as dimensions 91,4 (over all) x 16.9 x 7,9 metres pr 299.10 x 55.5 x 25.11 feet. The machinery consisted of 1 single horizontal compound steam engine and 6 coal-fuelled box boilers allowing with her single screw a trial speed of 23.5 knoys. Due to worse maintenance decreased her sped to just 6 knots by 1891. Crew numbered 361 men incluing 26 officers. Original armament consisted of 1-22,9cm/9" rifles muzzle-loading Armstrong gun, 14-20,3cm/8" rifled muzzle-loading Armstrong guns and 10-36 pd rifled muzle loading Armstrong guns. The 36pdrs were replaced in 1884 by 4-4,7cm/1.9" quick firing Hotchkiss fins and 2-25.4mm/1" 4-barrelded Nordenfeldt guns. The armour consisted of a 14cm/5.5" thick belt and the battery was protected by 12,7cm/5" thick armour. Between 1892-1894 was her armament changed and the Armstrong muzzle loaders were replaced by Krupp breech-loading guns. Fore and aft she received 2x1-24cm/9.4" K L/35 guns and in the broadside 8-15cm/5.2" L/25 and 6-10,5cm/4.1" L/25 guns 3 extra Nordenfeldt replaced 2-4,7cm guns. Laid down by Thames Iron Works, United Kingdom as part of the in 1863, launched on 13 December 1864, commissioned on 1866, decommissioned on 31 July 1909 and stricken in 1913 and broken up.
