Of the Project 1171/ Tapir-class, by NATO called Alligator-class, succeeded by the Ivan Gren-class. Also called a beachable amphibious transport dock of which the military design was started in 1959. The building of 15 units was planned and 14 realized which served/serving in the Russian and Ukrainian navies. Laid down by Yantar Zavod, Kaliningrad, Russia with yard number 296 on 30 August 1967, launched on 29 February 1968, commissioned on 31 December 1958 as the BDK-69 Nikolay Obekov, renamed Ork on 20 October 2002, refitted in 2014. Part of the Black Sea Fleet. Displacement 3.040 (standard)-4.650 (full load) tons and as dimensions 113,1 x 15,6 x 4,5 metres. The machinery consists of 2x4.500hp 58A diesels allowing a speed of 16,5 knots and a range of 4.800 nautical miles. Can stay 20 days at sea. Crew numbers 69 men. Armament consists of 1x2-5,7cm ZIF 31B (with .200 rounds), 3x3 9K34 Strela-3 SAM launchers with 24 9M36 missiles. Able to carry 440 military and 20 main battle tanks or 47BTR or 52 army trucks or 1.000 tons cargo.
