German submarines active on the Atlantic Ocean according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 25 May 1942

An item reported the estimated geographical locations of 36 submarines of the enemy on the Atlantic Ocean west of the Azores longitude on 24 May: 3 in the Nova Scotia, Canada area, 3 between Nova Scotia and Cape Hatteras (North Carolina, USA), 1 in the Cape Hatteras area, 2 between Cape Hatteras and the Florida of which one was east bound, 1 in the Gulf of Mexico near the Mississippi Delta, 3 in the western part of the Caribbean and 3 in the eastern part, 1 off north Brazil, 11 on passage of which 9 east- and 2 westbound between the latitudes of Cape Race (Newfoundland, Canada) and Cape Hatteras, 8 on passage (4 east- and 4 westbound) between the latitudes of Cape Hatteras and the Virgin Islands. What was going in the longitudes east of the Azores (Portugal) was unknown. The J.I.C. commented that lacking of the latter information did not mean that the number of the submarines the longitudes west of the Azores was to be respected the number of eastbound submarines.
