Improved San Giorgio-class design. Laid down by Fincantieri-Cantieri Navali SpA, Riva Trigoso on 19 August 1991, launched on 2 December 1993, commissioned on 14 April 1991, homeport Brindisi, Italy. Displacement 5.600-7.650 (full load) tons and as dimensions 118.00 (between perpendiculars)-137.00 x 20.650 (hull)-25.00 x 6.00 metres. Speed 20 knots. Armament consists of 1-7,6cm OTOBreda Compact dual purpose gun, 2x2-2cm 70 cal Mk24 Oerlikon anti aircraft guns. 3 CH-47 Chinook or 3 SH 37D Sea King or 5 AB-212 helicopters. Crew consists pf 16 officers, 182 enlisted, 200 cadets and 62 instructors or 349 troops.
