Japanese screw steam cargo-passenger ship Hongkong Maru 1935-1943

Built by Mitsubishi Jukogyo K.K., Kobe, Japan for account of Osaka Shosen K.K. (OSK line), Osaka, Japan in 1936; since 1941 of Toa Kaiun K.K., Tokyo, Japan and between 1942-1943 of the Japanese Imperial Navy used as an auxiliary gunboat until sunk on 21 June 1943 off the Shirase Lighthouse after being damaged by an attack of the American submarine Gunnel (SS-253) on 19 June. Call sign JOHK. Gross tonnage 2.797 tons, net tonnage 1.559 tons, deadweight 3.200 tons and as dimensions 298.5 x 44.0 x 25.3 x 20 (loaded) feet. Steam turbine machinery supplying via one screw 367 nhp. Coal bunker capacity 330 tons.Speed 14 (cruising)-15,5 (maximum) knots.
