The Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 18 September 1965 reported the intended visit by the commanding officer of the US Atlantic Fleet vice admiral K.S. Masterson (1) between Thursday 23-Monday 27 September. His flagship would be moored alongside the Sumatrakade.(2) The Dutch cruiser Hr.Ms. De Ruyter [C 801] (3) flagship of vice admiral L.E.H. Reeser (4) would also visit Amsterdam at the same and return the salute of 21 gun shots. Her crew numbered at that moment 67 officers and 1.010 sailors. Her main armament consisted of Talos guided missiles. For her crew was all kind of entertainment organized. The USS Little Rock was to attend NATO exercises on the Atlantic Ocean.

1. Kleber Sandin Masterson (12 July 1908-3 May 1998)was a survivor of the battleship USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 but lucky enough on the shore when his ship sunk. In 1964 appointed to commander of the 2nd Fleet, homeport Norfolk and of the NATO’s Strike Fleet Atlantic.
2. Of the Cleveland-class light cruisers, preceded by St. Louis and Atlanta-classes and succeeded by Fargo-class. Laid down at the shipyard of Cramp Shipbuilding Company, Philadelphia, USA on 6 March 1943, launched whiles sponsored by Mrs. Sam Wassell on 27 August 1944, commissioned on 17 June 1945, reclassified CLG-4 on 23 May 1957, converted into a Galveston-class guided missile cruiser 1957-1960, classified as G-4 on 1 July 1975, decommissioned and stricken on 22 November 1976 and then as a museum ship given to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval&Military Park, Buffalo, New York, USA. With a displacement of 10.670 (standard)-15.205 (full load) tons were her dimensions 185,95 x 20,22 x 7,6 metres or 610’1’ x 66’4” x 25’. The four steam turbines and 4 Babcock&Wilcox boilers supplied 100.000 shp allowing a speed of 33 knots. Her crew numbered 1.395 men and her armament consisted of 1x3-15,2cm/6” guns, 2x1-“12,7cm/5”guns and 1xtwin rail Mark 7 Talos SAM launcher for which she could carry 46 missiles with her.
3. The still existing light cruiser although since 7 March 1973 Peruvian owned and called Almirante Grau, built between 5 September 1939-18 November 1953 by Wilton-Fijenoord, Schiedam, Netherlands. In Dutch service she was never fitted out with guided missiles in contrary to her sister ship De Zeven Provinciën. Displacement 9.681 (standard)-12.165 (full load) tons and as dimensions 187,32 x 17,25 x 11,65 metres or 614.6 x 56.6 x 22.0 feet. Armament consisted of 4x2-15,2 cm/6” Bofors guns, 4x2-5,7cm guns and 8x1-4cm guns.
