British Royal Navy purchased merchant ships for conversion into auxiliary ships according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1913 No. 5
An item reported that the steamships Knight Companion, Tabaristan and Heliopolis (to be renamed Mediator) were bought by the British Royal Navy and to be completed in respectively a fleet repair ship, a depot ship for destroyers and a hospital ship.
