American whaler Josephine visited Monganui, New Zealand according to the New Zealand newspaper Daily Southern Cross dated 26 June 1857

An item reported the arrival at Monganui, New Zealand on 10 January of the American whaler Josephine of 445 tons master James. R. Allen from New Bedford 6 months out 400 barrels whale 80 barrels sperm 3.500 lbs bone, cleared on 26 January for whaling.(1) Built at Fairhaven, USA in 1856. 445 40/95 tons and as dimensions 119.5 x 28.9 1/2 x 14. 4 3/4 feet, 2 deks, 3 masts, square stern, no galleries, a billethead. Registered 14 July 1856, owners Eben Perry 5/32, William C.N. Swift 8/32, Edward C. Jones 4/32, Sarah S. Randall 2/32, Hannah H. Perry 2/32, Nathaniel H. Nye 2/32, Rodolphus Beetle 2/32, Obed N. Swift 2/32, William H. Crowell 1/32, New Bedford; Jacob Tabor 2/32, James R. Allen 2/32, Fairhaven.
