An item reported the arrival that morning just somewhat over time of the French cruiser Lamotte Picquet (1) at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies for a non official visit welcomed by a salute of 21 shots by the shore battery on the Kruiserkade which was answered. On board was the Commander in Chief of the French Naval Forces in the Far East vice admiral J. le Bigot.(2)

1. Part of the Duguay-Trouin class light cruisers consisting of the Duguay-Trouin, Lamotte-Picguet and Primauget, succeeded by the Jeanne d’Arc. Laid down at the Arsenal de Lorient, France on 17 January 1923, launched on 21 March 1924, commissioned on 5 March 1927, stationed in the Far East (French Indochina) since 1933, participated in defeating a Thai squadron on 14 January 1941, training hulk in October 1941, disarmed in November 1941 and sunk by American aircraft in the so-called South China Sea Raid in the harbour of Saigon on 12 January 1945. Broken up after the Second World War.
2. Jules Le Bigot (14 August 1883 Saint Briec-13 March 1965 Paris), vice admiral since 1937 and since 18 May 1937 commanding the French naval forces in the Far East. In 1939 appointed as prefect maritime at Cherbourg, France.
