An item referred to the German newspaper Hanov. Kurier which reported about the worse shipbuilding practices of the Germany navy. Boilers and fireplaces of ships recently in service had such heavy damage that the necessary repairs were still not finished. The cruiser SMS Hertha (1) which escorted the German emperor Wilhelm II towards Palestina was underway force to enter Genua, Italy for repairs still going on despite 4,5 months ago started. The cruiser SMS Gefion (2) which executed her trials possessed worn out boilers even before in fact used. Instead for going to sea in the spring was she to wait until autumn. The SMS Kaiser Friedrich (3) described as a model vessel had boilers to be altered or repaired which would take months to complete.

3.This must be the battleship Kaiser Friedrich III of the Kaiser Friedrich III-class, preceded by Brandenburg-class, succeeded by Wittelsbach-class, laid down by the Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven, Germany on 5 March 1895, launched on 1 July 1896, commissioned on 7 October 1898 and broken up in 1920.
