American whaling ship Jefferson reported according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 15 August 1846

An item referred to the Baltic which had heard on 1 May of the American whaling ship Jefferson of New London that season no oil. She killed and sunk 5 whales and 2 gone off spouting blood in a thick fog.
