Dutch gunpowder mill De Zeefortuin at Vlissingen, Netherlands exploded according to the newspaper Bataafsche Leeuwarder courant dated 26 June 1799

An item dated Vlissingen, Netherlands 11th reported that at around 20.30 o’clock the building named Stoof [Stove] part of the gunpowder mill De Zeefortuin [located on the so-called Eiland=Island] exploded taking with her another buildings and two mills and damaging the saltpetre house. In the Stoof were 6.000 pound gunpowder stored. There were no victims except for two cows, while the labourers stopped already with their works and who were now at home. The explosion had been so seriously that nothing was left of the buildings and only the earth visible. In several houses were the glass broken and even was feared that the crashing debris would set fire in another buildings like the ‘s Lands Magazijn (Naval storehouse) near the gunpowder mill.
