Russian submarine project 628 design in the 1950s

Between 1952-1953 was the Project 628 missile submarine designed on base of the existing K-class submarines. The idea was to fit out a submarine with a ramp for launching the experimental twin ramjets driven 10XN Volna or 10KhN subsonic cruise missile. The missile was designed by mechanics scientist, aviation and missile engineer Vladimir Nikolayevich Chelomei (30 June 1914-8 December 1984). In fact was the missile never taken into actual use by the Soviet Navy.  The K-class was designed in 1936 as a diesel-electric cruiser submarine, preceded by the Soviet S-class, succeeded by the Zulu-class, with a displacement of 1.490 (surfaced)-2.600 (submerged tons and as dimensions 97.65 x 7.4 x 4.51 metres or 320.4 x 24.3 x 14.10 feet.
