SMS Deutschland
An item dated London, England 12 July reported that the officers and the crew of a British submarine were decorated by the Russian tsar with the Cross of St. George for sinking a German battleship in the Baltic. The Germans still not confirmed such a loss. The newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 5 July published an item dated Petrograd, Russia 4 July reported that a submarine launched on 2 July two torpedoes sinking a German battleship of the Deutschland-class.(1)

1. Deutschland-class pre-dreadnought battleship consisted of 5 ships, all survived the First World War except for the SMS Pommern which was sunk in the Battle of Jutland on 1 June 1916. Preceded by Braunschweig-class and succeeded by Nassau-class.
