Italian torpedo boat Cassiopea 1935-1959

Laid down by Cantieri del Tirreno Riva Trigoso, Italy on 10 December 1935. Launched on 22 November 1936. Commissioned on 26 April 1937. Modernized 1950-1951. In 1958 described as fast corvette converted into a fast anti-submarine frigate (F553), earlier rated as torpedo boat. Fitted for minelaying and minesweeping. Stricken on 31 October 1959. Spica-class, sub-class Climene, preceded by Curtatone-class, succeeded by Ariete-class. Displacement 652 (standard)-1.010 (full load) tons and as dimensions 81.40 x 8.20 x 2.38-3.01 metres. Two Tosi turbines and 2 Yarrow type boilers with 19.000 hp, 221 tons fuel bunker capacity and 34 knots speed. Range 1.960 nautical miles/15 knots and 704 nautical miles/30 knots. Crew numbered 99 men. Armament included 4x1-45cm/18” torpedo guns, 3x1-10cm/3.9” 47 cal guns, 4x2-13.2mm/0.5”guns and mines.
