The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1898-1899 reported that the British gunboat HMS Redpole (1) visited Sabang, Dutch East Indies between 21-22 September 1899.(2) The Dutch newspaper Sumatra-courant dated 14 November reported her arrival at Poeloe Weh, Sabang on 21 September.

1. Part of the Redbreast-class screw steam composite gunboats designed by Sir William Henry White, launched by Pembroke Dockyard on 13 June 1889, served on the China Station and sold to be broken up on 15 May 1906.
2. Sabang was an important coal bunker station .The Dutch newspaper Sumatra-courant dated 14 November 1899 confirmed her arrival at Poeloe Weh, Sabang.
