British screw steam gunboat HMS Lizard visited the Dutch East Indies in 1899

The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1898-1899  reported that the British cruiser 3rd class HMS Lizard visited Batavia, Dutch East Indies between 27 September-5 October 1899. The Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 28 September 1899 reported the arrival of the British warship Lizard coming from Plymouth via Gibraltar, Malta, Port Said, Aden and Colombo. Commanding officer John C. Watson. Armament of 6 guns and a crew numbering 82 men (including 6 officers). The newspaper De locomotief dated Monday 2 October 1899 reported her arrival on Friday morning at Tandjong Priok.

1. Of the Bramble-class screw steam gunboats, preceded by Albacore-class, succeeded by Pygmy-class, launched by Harland&Wolff, Belfast, Ireland on 27 November 1885, laid up in 1904 at Sydney, Australia and there to be broken up in February 1905.
