England establishing coal bunker station at the Cocos-Islands according to the Dutch newspaper De locomotief dated 14 April 1903

An item reported that the British cabinet presumably would order to lay a cable between Velon [Sri Lanka] and the Cocos-Islands [or Keeling Islands, Australia], where a coal bunker station was to be founded.(1)

Note

1. Annexed by the British Empire on 1887, in 1901 was a telegraph cable station established on Direction Islands with underseas cables. This telegraph station was of huge importance in both wars.
