The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1898-1899 reported that the French transport Caravane visited Batavia, Dutch East Indies between 28-30 September 1899. . The Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 28 September 1899 reported the arrival of the Caravane coming from Saigon, French Indochina bound for Madagascar. Commanded by J. Diacre. Crew numbered 83 men (including 5 officers) and armed with 2-3,7cm revolver guns. The newspaper De locomotief dated Monday 2 October 1899 reported her arrival on Friday morning at Tandjong Priok with on board troops for Madagascar. The edition dated 5 October reported her departure from Batavia on 30th September.(1)
