French navy designed large troop transport submarine according to the De Indische courant dated 2 February 1923

An item referred to the press agency Reuter reporting that the French navy designed a 6.000 tons submarine able to transport several hundreds of military at the same time. The submarine was to be used for securing the military connection between France and North Africa even when in the future enemy forces controlled the Mediterranean.(1)

Note

1. The 600 series seagoing submarines were designed as coastal type submarines to serve in the Mediterranean. Their surfaced displacement was as a result of the 1922 Washington and 1930 London naval conferences limited to 600 tons, between 1923-1933 were 28 such submarines with a displacement of 609-651 (surfaced)-757-822 (submerged) tons and a length of 62.4-65.9 metres built.
