Australian and Japanese aircraft attacking targets on Papua New Guinea according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 10 March 1942

An item reported that Japanese forces invaded Lae [Papua New Guinea] 35 miles to north of the occupied Salamaua. Aircraft of the Australian R.A.A.F. bombed Salamaua [Papua New Guinea] and hit one large transport. Port Moresby [Papua New Guinea] was again bombed by Japanese bombers and the J.I.C. expected on short notice an attack to occupy Port Moresby to gain control over the Torres Strait and threatening North Australia.
