An item reported that in the coming months 9 large mid sections for ore tankers were to be towed from West Europe to the USA and Canada. The Dutch towing companies L. Smit&Co.’s Internationale Sleepdienst, Rotterdam and N.V. Wijsmuller, IJmuiden were to tow 6 respectively 3. The midsections were built by Europeans shipyards for American and Canadian account and to become part of 23,000 ton ore tankers. In the USA and Canada they were to assembled with the fore and aft ship sections of former tankers. Building of midsections in Europe was cheaper than in the USA or Canada.
