US Navy stationing submarines at Ireland and on the Azores during the First World War

An item reported that the US Navy stationed 7 submarines at an Irish base and another 5 at a base in the Azores [Ponta Delgado?] for patrolling alongh lanes and harrassing the enemy’s operations. They sighted the enemy 21 times firing at 4 occassions torpedoes resulting in the loss of one enemy submarine.
