American landing ship, medium (rocket) LSM (R) 189 in 1945

Ex-LSM189. Laid down by Navy Yard, Charleston, South Carolina, USA on 17 August 1944, launched on 12 September 1944 and commissioned on 5 November 1944. Dimensions 196.6 (waterline) x 203.6 (over all) x 34.6 (extreme) x 5.6 (mean draft at full at attack displacement)-6.6 (mean draft at full load displacement) feet, displacement 783 (attack)-961 (full load)-961 (trial) tons. Tons per inch immersion 14tons. Trial speed 13.1 knots estimate based on model basin tests. Total accommodation for 5 officers and 76 men. Armament consisted of 1-12.7cm/5” 38 cal dual purpose gun, 4-4.2” mortars, 2x1-4cm anti aircraft mounts and 75-4 rail Mk 35 amd 30-6 Mk 30 rocket launchers. Propulsion consisted of 2 G.M. diesel engines 16-278A supplying via 2 screws 2,800 hp. Capacity diesel oil 1,225 barrels. Incorporated the outside hull and propulsion of a standard type LSM in an entirely new design with automatic power driven rocket launchers fed by an automatic hoist.
