Japanese destroyer Shiratsuyu 1933-1944

Part of Shiratsuyu-class destroyers preceded by Hatsuharu-class, succeeded by Asashio-class. Consisted of Shiratsuyu, Shigure, Murasame, Yudachi, Harusame, Samidare, Umikaze, Yamakaze, Kawakaze and Suzukaze. Building ordered under the 1931 Fiscal Year, laid down by Sasebo Naval Arsenal on 14 November 1933, launched on 5 April 1935, commissioned on 7 September 1936, sunk after a collission with the Japanese tanker 90 nautical miles souteast of Surigao Strait, Philippines on 15 June 1944 and stricken on10 August 1944. Standard displacement 1,712 tons. Speed 34 knots. Armament 2x2&1x1-12.7cm/5” cal 50 Type 3 naval guns, 2x1-13mm Type 93 machineguns. 2x4-61cm/24” torpedo tubes for which 16 Type 9 3 torpedoes were carried and 16 depth charges.
