Launching British battleship HMS Duke of York planned according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 12 July 1939

King George V-class

An item dated London, England 11th reported that the British queen would launch on 16 September the newest British battleship named Duke of York.(1)

Note

1. Proposed name Anson. Part of King George V-class, preceded by Nelson-class succeeded by realized Vanguard and planned Lion-class, building ordered on 16 November 1936, laid down by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland on 5 May 1937, launched on 4 November 1940, commissioned on 4 November 1941 and finally stricken on 18 May 1957 and broken up. The King George V was on 21 February 1939 and the Prince of Wales (proposed name King Edward VIII on 3 May 1939 launched.
