Quail-class preceded by Zebra-class succeeded by Earnest-class. Building ordered under 1894-1895 shipbuildinhg programme. Laid down with yard number 606 by Laird Brothers, Birkenhead, England on 28 May 1895, launched on 24 September 1895, completed and commissioned in June 1897, collided with the British scout cruiser HMS Attentive off Portland on 7 August 1907 and sold to be broken up on 23 July 1919.
