Japanese passenger-cargo ship Yamabiko Maru 1937

Call sign JTVL. Laid down by Uraga Dock Co. Ltd., Uraga, Japan on 23 February 1937, launched on 28 July 1937, completed on 7 December 1937, requisitioned by the navy on 6 August 1941, converted into an auxiliary repair ship at the Fujinagata Zosenship shipyard 15 August-15 October 1941, torpedoed by the American submarine USS Steelhead (SS-280) norht west of Torishima on 10 January 1944, sunk on 13 January 1944 ,and stricken on 10 March 1944. Gross tonnage 6,795 tons, net tonnage 4,050 tons and dimensions 444.7 x 59.0 x 33.7 x 27 (loaded) feet. Steam turbine propulsion, 833 nhp, speed 95 rpm/14 knots, 110 rpm/17.5 knots, 5,500 bhp, oil bunker capacity 2,950 tons, range 27,000 nautical miles/14 knots. Capable of mounting 12.7cm/5”-15.24cm/6”guns.
