Armament was to be 2x2 and 2x3-35.56cm/14”cal 50 guns with the triple gun turrets supper firing and as secondary armament 18-12.7cm/5” cal 51 guns. With a displacement of 34,900 tons, 180,000 shp (for which 24 boilers were needed) was the estimated speed 35 knots.There were six planned to be named Lexington, Saratoga, Constellation, Ranger, Consititution, Ranger and United States the CC 1-6. The building of the last four already on stocks was cancelled due to the Washington Naval Treaty in 1922, the first two were completed after their conversion into aircraft carriers. Final design mentioned a displacement of 44,200-45,354 (deep load) tons and as dimensions 266.4 (over all) x 32.1 x 9.4 metres or 874 x 105.4 x 31 feet and an armament of 4x2-40.6cm/16” guns, 14x1-152cm/6” guns, 4 (lter 8)x1-7.6cm/3” anti aircraft guns anf 8-53.3cm/21” torpedo tubes.
