Japanese cargo ship (ex-Katsuragi 1930-938) Katuragi Maru 1938-1942

Call sign JGM. Laid down by by Uraga Dock Co. Ltd., Uraga, Japan on 10 July 1903, launched on 15 May 1931, completed on 2 October 1931, requsitioned by the navy, converted into an auxiliary aircraft transport between 30 November 1993-10 January 1940, torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Sturgeon (SS-187) off Cape St. George, New Ireland on 1 October 1942 and stricken on1 November 1942. Gross tonnage 8,033 tons, under deck 7,482 tons, net tonnage 5,840 tons and as dimensions 443.6 x 59.7 x 40.1 x 11.6 (light)-27 (loaded) feet. Oil fuelled diesel propulsion, single screw, oil bunker capacity including deep tanks 2,900 tons, 814 nhp, range 38,000 nautical miles/15.5 knots, speed 15.5 (normal) cruising)-20 (maximum) knots, 104 rpm/18 knots, 113 rpm/19 knots/123 rpm/20 knots.
