Enemy submarines very active along American Atlantic coast line according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 15 April 1942

An item reported that an enemy submarine seemed to be succesfully attacked with gunfire by an Allied destroyer northeast of Cape Hatteras before daylight on 14 April. Later that day attacked a trawler using depth charges an enemy submarine southeast of Cape Lookout at least damaging the submarine. In that area had the enemy submarines been very active. Also managed a merchant vessel to score a direct hit on an enemy submarine off the east coast of Florida, USA.
