An item reported that three US bombers attacked a Japanese aircraft carrier lying in the harbour of Rabaul, New Guinea scoring a direct hit and two near misses close to her stern. A second attack by three bombers was unsuccessful. A carrier escorted by a destroyer was later sighted going with speed to the northwest. The Allies believed that after 20 April the Japanese would launched a seaborrn offensive against Port Moresby. The attacked carrier was probably the Hohu [Hōshō].(1)
