Part of Town-class Southampton subclass, preceded by Arethusa and succeeded by Crown Colony and Dido-classes. Laid down by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson, Newcastle upon Tyne, England on 30 December 1936, launched on 31 March 1938, commissioned on 6 July 1939, torpedoed by German submarine U-456 while underway from Murmansk, Russia back home as part of convoy QP 11 on 30 April 1942, while towed attacked by German destroyers on 2 May, abandoned and sunk by Allied gunfire and torpedo.
