An item reported that the French marshal Joffre (1) went on 11 November at Marseille, France on board of the ss Porthos bound for the Far East. At Singapore he was to go on board of the flagship Montcalm (2) destined to Saigon and around 20 December he intended to visit the king of Siam [Thailand] (3) at Bangkok and from there the kings of Cambodia (4) and Annam (5). At Tongkin he would rejoin the Montcalm bound for Yokohama, Japan, planned arrival between 20-25 January 1922. After a month he would continue his voyage to China via Seoul, Korea and Mukden and the USA before returning home.
