An item reported that a preliminary investigation made clear that the German steamship Windhuk at Santos, Brazil was seriously sabotaged in boiler and main and auxiliary propulsion. Her crew was removed. The Italian merchant ship Conte Grande however seemed not to be damaged as earlier was reported. The Brazilian cruiser Rio Grande do Sul was lying next to her. The expectation was that Brazil would take all Axis ships lying in her ports in possession. The USA was interested in purchasing both ships.
