An item reported that in the pas 24 hours enemy submarines were particularly active off the Delaware and Virginia Capes with sinking 3 merchant ships and making numerous contacts. Submarines were also sighted off New York, Boston and Portland. A large number of submarines threatened the convoy routes south and southeasy of Newfoundland, Canada.
