Japanese submarines active in the Canton-Suva-Samoa area according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 21 January 1942

An item reported an increased Japanese submarine activity in the Canton-Suva-Samoa area which could be the Japanese navy intending to operate in that area. One submarine was sighted in the Union Island Group on the position 90 south latitude-172 west longitude.
