Romanian naval mission visited in 1938 La Spezia, Italy

In a item published in the Il Telegrafo dated 29 December 1938 was the visit described of the Romanian naval mission to the harbour infrastructure and industry of La Spezia, Italy. Coming from Rome in the night of 28 December started the following morning the mission her visit led by admiral Barbuneana and naval captain Dumitrescu, the latter naval attaché for Romania at Londen, England. They were welcomed by a representative of the department Alto Tirreno. Naval engineer general [F.?] Dondona and naval artillery general Sgarbiti accompanied the mission when they visited the destroyer Sirocco and the new torpedo boat Circe where the commanding officers showed both fast and modern ships. In the arsenal were two submarines visited. Admiral Goiran commander-in-chief of the department presented the Romanian guests an admiral’s dinner. By car was travelled to the Odero-Terni-Orlando works at Mellara where admiral Arturo Ciano [26 January 1874-31 August 1943] and the directors gave a tour.
