An item reported that the USS Heron fought during 7 hours with Japanese aircraft causing 45% casualties including two dead among her crew.(1)

1. Lapwing- or Bird-class minesweeper succeeded by Raven-class. Launched as Minesweeper No. 10 by Standard Shipbuilding Co., New York, USA on 18 May 1918, commissioned on 30 October 1918, decommissioned on 6 April 1922, recommissioned as AVP-2 on 18 December 1924, decommissioned on 12 February 1946 and handed over to the State Department to be disposed in July 1947. The air attack was on 31 December 1941.
