American whaler Northern Light visited Hilo, Hawaii according to the The Friend dated 8 November 1858

An item reported the arrival on 23 October of the American whaler Northern Light, captain Chapel also spelled as Chappel, 1,250 barrels whale oil, 14,000 lbs bone, coming from Ochotsk. Left on 28 October for Honolulu. Her captain reported the death of Mikalena native of Hilo falling over board in the night of 18 October into the fore channels four days sailing from home and drowning.
