Part of Crown Colony-, Colony- or Fiji-class preceded by Dido- and Town-class succeeded by Minotaur-class. The Ceylon-group of this class was slightly modified and fitted out with the ‘X’ turret 1x3-6” guns. Pennant 48. Laid down by Swan Hunter, Tyne and Wear, England on 24 July 1939, launched on 30 November 1940, commissioned on 21 February 1942, transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy on 22 September 1943, returned to the British Royal Navy on 27 March 1946, recommissioned on 1 July 1946, decommissioned in December 1960 and arrived at the scrapyard on 5 December 1968.
