In his letter No. 1932 dated 26 October 1942 referred the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin to the newspaper A Voz, Lisbon dated 18 October 1942 reporting that the Portuguese steamship Mello was lying at Cidade da Praie, Portuguese Cape Verde [since 1975 Republic of Cabo Verde] loaded with bags potatoes flour, 1,111 bagus sugar, 1,245 bags beans, 236 bags mais, 350 bags coffee, 200 sack mais flour, 1372.087 kilo mais in bulk and 47 drums lard.
